Although there are plenty of countries that don’t end in the letters “VIA,” for some reason the creators of the fictional towns in most Christmas movies believe that the only way to make their story really believable is if their royal family lives in a place that does end in “VIA.” So instead of you feeling confused all the time about these fake places, I’ve created a guide that will hopefully clear everything up! Let us please discuss Aldovia, Genovia, Belgravia and Medelvia.
Aldovia as seen in A Christmas Prince.
Location: Not a real place, however it’s vaguely European and everyone has British accents.
Town: cute, small and nestled in some snow-covered mountains
Palace: The castle is a winter wonderland, surrounded by a lot of land. Perfect for horseback riding in the cold!
Prince outfit: Dark color uniform with gold tassles and a red sash.
Travel: Apparently you can fly there direct on United Airlines.
Belgravia as seen in The Princess Switch.
Location: Not a real place, however once again it’s vaguely European and everyone has British accents. There is a real neighborhood called Belgravia in London.
Town: cute, small and nestled in some snow-covered mountains (full disclosure, I just copy and pasted this sentence from above.)
Palace: The castle is a winter wonderland, surrounded by a lot of land. Perfect for horseback riding in the cold! (Also copy + pasted that.)
Prince outfit: Dark colored suit without shoulder tassles, however there is a red sash.
Travel: It seems United *also* flies direct to Belgravia, according to the stock video of a plane landing that they used to symbolize our protagonist has arrived.
Madelvia as seen in My Christmas Prince.
Location: A fictional place that is vaguely European and everyone has British accents.
Town: IDK, THEY BARELY SPEND ANY TIME THERE WHICH IS NOT COOL!!! The bulk of the movie takes place in Maple Falls, Wyoming, which is a real place and during the winter I suppose is a cute, small town nestled in the mountains!!!
Palace: A castle perched atop a snowy mountain. Looks like a winter wonderland to me!
Prince outfit: Red uniform with a blue sash and what I think is a sideways pineapple on his collar.
Genovia, as seen in The Princess Diaries.
Location: Not real, but there is a tourist website you can go to where it lies to your face and tells you to come visit it. Also, like all the ones that came after it, Genovia is vaguely European and everyone has British accents.
Town: cute, small, and nestled between mountains. Apparently winter doesn’t really happen here (see tourist website) but if it DID you know it would be covered in snow!!! Also just FYI, Genovia has a Panera Bread.
Palace: Big, nice, not a winter wonderland cause the no winter thing, but definitely looks like a summer wonderland.
Travel: The Genovia International airport is CGI artisty. Also, they don’t fly United they fly private, bitch!!!!!!
And there you have it. Now you know the basics on all the fake ______VIA towns. And if you’re wondering which one you should live in, take this quiz made by my friend Jen! It doesn’t include Medelvia though cause like I said, only I watched that and it was by accident.
